What our Salon Does for You
When
we are all watching our money, we sometimes wonder
if we could get by with cutting back on a few things.
And the answer is, a qualified yes. I say qualified,
because you have to make sure that what you’re cutting
back on will result in true savings and not in bad
choices.
There certainly are salons that will give you a facial
for a pretty inexpensive price. However, your skincare
needs change in the summer, usually causing your complexion
to suffer. The question you have to ask yourself,
is whether that discount salon has the best qualified
people for the job. Some thought they would save a
few dollars and went to where they thought they would
get a better discount for a facial. Not only were
they disappointed, they were infuriated and absolutely
hated the results of their facials and ended up going
to our salon to have us fix the problem...
Fortunately, because our skin specialist Regina Jackson
who has been with us for over 20 years can spot the
problem with your damage skin and with close analysis
and treatments get it back in shape. Her specialty
is the 90 minute Microdermabrasion applied with a
diamond tip.wand that exfoliates the skin while it
vacuums the outer layer of dead skin cells away. This
non-surgical technique which stimulates the production
of collagen (the building block of skin) and elastin
(allows the skin to stretch without losing shape)
restores the vibrancy and youthfulness to your complexion.
Additionally, the products our salon sells are far superior to those you find in discount stores. Most of the products in those stores are knock-offs, and are not made with the ingredients you are expecting. The products you most need to purchase from your salon are products desighed to give your skin the following benefits: erase wrinkles and fine lines, reduce appearance of large pores, reduce sun damage and stretch marks, diminish scars, remove whiteheads, blackheads and unclog pores, reduce mild hyper pigmentation, firm skin and muscle tissue to reduce sagging skin.
One of the most important qualities our salon and aesthetician has is we treat
all clients like special people that they are. You
are greeted by name. It is flattering that we remember
that you like cream in your coffee or tea (always
complimentary) and it is the one time our clients
will give in to a tasty treat that is always available.
Our Aesthetician is always happy to see you and is
eager to hear what’s new in your life. Your facial
is never complete without the short but invigorating
neck massage all the way down your neck. Our Clients
tell us that this treatment is the biggest reason
they return to our salon.

Reduce Your Use
As winter approaches, we're going to be inside a lot more, using the heat to keep us comfortable. How green is your home? Did you know that you can ask your utility company to come in and do an audit of your home. Most of the time this is free. Some places charge a nominal fee to help you identify places where you might be wasting energy.
Make sure you have fully insulated your home. This includes your attic, basement, walls, water heater, and pipes. This can save you a ton of money. Make sure your windows are prtected with weather-stripping to prevent drafts.
Does your community participate in a recycling program?
Did you know that just about everything that is routinely
thrown away can be recycled? Paper, plastic, this
includes direct mail with its glossy finish and bright
colors. Even if you don’t have curbside recycling,
you can set up a space in your garage to separate
things like newspapers, cans, plastic bottles, etc.
Some communities even pay you to bring your recyclables
in to their center.
Try this on for size….swap out your incandescent lightbulbs for flourescents. They have come a long way. You can get warm colors, cool colors, some even mimic sunlight. You'll slash your energy costs in half or more!

Honor of Chocolate Awareness
Eat Chocolate!
Researchers have discovered that eating dark chocolate
is a really sweet way to lower your blood pressure.
Dark chocolate is a powerful source of antioxidant
phenols that have recently been found to lower blood
pressure.
Eating 100 grams of dark chocolate each day for
two weeks lowered the blood pressures of the study
group by as much as five systolic points.
Now, eating that much chocolate sounds really wonderful, but you will be increasing your caloric intake by 480 calories. You'll need to figure out where you'll eliminate calories.!
Or, you can start a walking program. I know you'll
need to work up to it, but if you walk for one hour,
you'll burn up that chocolate. It's worth it!

Don't Share Information
Most people don’t think a thing about telling
all of their Facebook friends that they’re heading
out on a two week vacation. You may even share your
birthdate. These are two bits of information that
today’s thieves thrive on. Be sure to be more careful
what you post online, and make sure your privacy settings
are enabled appropriately.

Apple
Pie Recipe
Apples are in season, and nothing spells autumn like
a fresh apple pie. Prepare enough crust to both line
the pan and cover the apples. Or you can just thaw
a package of pie-crust. That makes it even simpler.
Peel, core, and thinly slice about 7 apples. Use a
combination of three to four different types of apples,
Granny Smith, Pink Lady, Macintosh, Jonathan, Gala
are all good choices. Steer clear of Red and Yellow
Delicious. They are tasty, but not very good in a
pie.
Toss apple slices in a bowl with ¼ cup flour, 2 tsp. cinnamon, 1/8 tsp. cloves, ¼ tsp. salt. Pour into the pie shell, top with slices of butter. Place top crust and seal the edges. Make a couple of slits allowing for steam to escape. Bake 350 for 1 hour. Serve at room temperature with either Cheddar cheese or ice cream.
Red Flashing Lights
You were distracted, you didn’t see the sign, you
simply didn’t notice that you were speeding. Now you
have a police car behind you. What to do? Mind your
manners. Seriously, most officers will deal very well
with motorists who are polite and do not argue. Keep
your hands on the steering wheel, wait until you are
told to get your license and registration, then do
so slowly. Remember, the officer is even more terrified
than you are. Traffic stops are one of their most
dangerous duties. Show some restraint, be nice, and
you might just get off with a warning.
Autumn Leaves
The palette of fall is stunningly beautiful, prompting
people to travel, sometimes great distances, to see
the beautiful colors. But what causes those colors?
We all suspect it has a lot to do with the falling
temperatures, but how do trees know what colors to
turn? There are three chemicals at play here:
1) Chlorophyll, responsible for the green color
of the leaves; 2) Carotenoids produce yellow, orange,
and brown colors; 3) Anthocyanins which are responsible
for the highly prized crimson and red tones.
Chlorophyll and carotenoids are always present. When the days shorten and the temps drop, anthocyanins appear. As chlorophyll diminishes, the colors begin to emerge. How beautiful!

Pumpkin for Your Skin
After you read this, you are going to try to incorporate
pumpkin into your meals at least once a day. Did you
know that pumpkin is a veritable fountain of youth for
your skin? It plumps up your skin, and helps to rebuild
collagen, known to decrease as we age. That cheerful
orange globe is chock full of anti-oxidants, vitamins,
and minerals. The alpha and beta carotene convert to
Vitamin A that promotes healthy vision and keeps your
immune system humming. It also reverses skin damage
caused by UV radiation from sun exposure. It also slows
the aging process , prevents tumor growth and reduces
the risk of cataracts. Fresh or canned, the benefits
are there.
