Care Tips

How to Get Soft, Smooth Skin Like a Baby By Amy S. Johnson
Woman and men all over the world are just like
you. You want soft smooth skin just like a new
born baby, right? Baby’s skin is so smooth,
soft and supple because their bodies haven't yet
been tainted with a fatty, salty, sugary diet and
skin damage by the sun. There are ways you can
achieve a baby’s complexion, and it's easier
than you might think.
There is a reason big brand skin care products spend
more money on advertising and marketing than they
do on researching new, innovative ingredients. They
want to convince you to give them money. Lots of
it too! Many of them advertise moisturizers which
supposedly give you smooth baby-like skin, but in
actuality, many of these products have unsavoury
ingredients in them.
Fragrances, alcohol, toxic chemicals and even pesticides
can be found in many "market leading" brands.
This leads to skin irritation, breakouts, and skin
that does not look like they promised it would.
The truth is that you can get naturally amazing smooth,
soft skin like a baby without even trying too hard.
Diet
Substitute burgers and fries for steamed salmon and
pinto beans. Trade out fried chicken and gravy for
grilled chicken stuffed with lentils and spinach.
Eat plenty of fruits instead of ice cream. Diet is
all about actually applying what you know. You know when you are eating bad stuff, so make a
conscious effort to eat good foods that are high
in minerals, antioxidants, good fats and proteins.
Things like blueberries, spinach, broccoli, nuts,
lean chicken or fish.
What you put into your body will reflect in your
skin, so put in good things 80% of the time!
A good, natural moisturizer
When choosing a moisturizer you want the ingredients
to be as natural as possible. No added chemicals,
parabens or toxins needed.
Clinically proven ingredients like Cynergy TK, Phytessence
Wakame and nano-lipobelle H-EQ10 will all give you
smoother, firmer, wrinkle free skin. Also keep an
eye out on the label for shea butter, almond oil,
grape seed oil, and avocado oil as these natural
oils helps keep the balance in skin moisture and
are known to soften the skin naturally.
You do not need to put 10 different creams on
your face every day to have smooth skin like a baby.
In fact, I have been getting along just fine with one
jar of cream that includes all of the above ingredients
and more. That, combined with a good diet, plenty of
water and plenty of sleep is enough to give me a really
good complexion. Not quite as smooth as a babies perhaps,
but close enough!

III Summer Hair Care Tips – Part 2III:
It's still summer and the heat, sun, humidity, and
wind are still taking their toll, aren't they? We've
talked about protecting your hair during the summer,
but let's make sure you're really doing everything you
can to keep your hair looking beautiful while you're
enjoying this warm spell.
Summertime is an excellent time to start a new exercise
routine, play tennis, golf, swimming or beach volleyball.
So, do we know what to do with our hair to protect
it? We might wear a ball cap, or a golfing visor
to protect either our scalp or our vision, but is
it protecting our hair? Remember, hair that
is subjected to UV rays of the sun can become
damaged. Will braiding help? Or pulling our hair
back in a pony tail? This will help prevent wind some
degree, but the hair is still exposed to theu use
to pull your hair back with? Using anything that
has a metal clasp can damage your hair by the edges of the metal rubbing against the individual strands of hair and breaking them.
Use hair ties that are without metal in them. Also,
try to change where you tie your hair back when you
do pull it back. Sporting exactly the same
ponytail all summer will give you a lot of breakage
in the same place, giving you a frizzy look.
What about a leave-in conditioner? This is certainly
an option as this will moisturize your hair continuously
throughout the day. This type of conditioner
often has sunscreen in it, which will help to protect
your hair from UV damage. Remember, UV rays
turns colored hair brassy.
Once a week during the summer, use an intensive hair
mask that has either shea butter or avocado oil for
additional moisturizing. Consider putting the mask
in your hair before you head outside. The warmth
of the sun will help the mask penetrate your hair
to a greater degree.
What about frizzy hair? This is a really frustrating
situation, especially if the humidity where you live
is extremely high in the summer. Talk to your hair
stylist about a chemical straightening process. Similar
to a perm, but with the opposite results, the long-lasting
effects of a chemical straightening procedure might
have you smiling even in 90% humidity.

Dishwasher No-Nos
We live in the age of convenience and most of us don't know what we would do
without a dishwasher. What we may not always be aware of is now damaging
the dishwasher can be to certain items. Here are a few tips that will guide you through the hazards of what you should
and what you should not place in your dishwasher! Following
these tips will help you save money by protecting your valuable kitchen items
that suffer every time they are subjected to the harsh detergent and violent
spray of the water that is designed to remove caked on food, but isn't quite
so friendly on other items.
Wood – Wood swells as it absorbs water, which will lead
to cracking and breaking of glue joints such as those on pieced cutting boards
and salad bowls. Knife handles are at terrible risk of swelling and wearing.
Knives – Not only are the handles at risk when subjected
to the harsh environment inside the dishwasher, the detergent is harsh and leads
to nicks and scratches on the blade. My knife sharpener has chided me when
my knives dull sooner than they should. I have to admit when I I have placed
them in the dishwasher.
Crystal – Don't put crystal in the dishwasher. They
can crack from the heat, and the detergent will etch the glass leading to a cloudy
appearance that is permanent. In the same way, china should always be washed
by hand.
Pots and Pans – Most varieties will suffer. The handles
and seals shrink from repeated exposure to the dishwasher.
Anything temperature sensitive! I had a really great cutting
mat that had a beautiful painting reproduction of a vineyard. It was one of my
favorite things. Sadly, it melted in the dishwasher.

World Economy
The earthquake/tsunami in Japan in March of this year has created unexpected
shortages in both the camera market as well as the iPad market. Major
electronic factories in Japan, including Nikon, Sony, Panasonic, and Canon
were affected by the natural disasters. This has increased prices on a number
of electronic products, and downright shortages in other areas. Some
of the more desirable digital camera lenses are currently not being shipped.
The Canon plant was especially hard hit and no date has been set for a return
to normal production and shipping.
Some of the problems lie not in the devastation of the plants themselves, but
in auxiliary plants that provide necessary parts, for example, brass rings for
lenses. Until a new supplier is found, the lenses can't be manufactured.

"I bet deep down you
still wish your mom would take you clothes shopping
every August for the new school year."
~Bridget Willard
Did you know? Top news from the
1960s:
- The average price for a dozen eggs was 54¢
- My Fair Lady won best picture in 1964
- The average home price was $13,600 in 1965
- A gallon of regular gas was 33¢
- The top song on the Billboard charts was Hey
Jude by the Beatles.

Blue Margarita Recipe
Here's a wonderful cocktail to sip during the
heat of August. Be sure to use fresh
squeezed lime juice!
In a glass filled with ice mix:
- 4 ounces lime juice
- 2 ounces Blue Curacao
- 2 ounces white tequila
- 1 slice of lime
Feel free to rim the glass with salt. I
often forget that step, so I sprinkle just a
little bit of salt over the cocktail before I
serve it. It's that blend of tequila, salt,
and lime that does the trick!

How to Start an Exercise
Program
Exercise isn't easy for all people. But almost everyone will benefit from getting
into a regular routine to help maintain optimal health and wellness.
Here are a few points to keep in mind for those of you interested in developing
and beginning a regular exercise plan:
- Check with your physician. Yes, getting into
an exercise program, especially if you've been
sedentary for a long time comes with risks. Get
your doctor's approval first.
- Start your program slowly, and be sure to
warm up before you begin exercising. A gentle
cool-down period is also recommended.
- Avoid fast, jerky movements. Move through
your exercises smoothly and gently, at a slow,
deliberate pace.
- Dress comfortably.
- Stay hydrated. Water is best. If
you're exercising in extremely hot conditions
where you are sweating a lot, you will need
to replace electrolytes. An old remedy
is finding new popularity for dehydration issues,
coconut water. At only about 43 calories
per 8 ounce serving, about 39 mg of sodium
and 495 mg of potassium, this refreshing drink
is almost miraculous in how fast you feel better.
It has just enough natural sugars and an excellent
balance of electrolytes.
- Watch for signs of becoming dehydrated or
fatigue. Stop before you reach this point,
otherwise you will defeat the purpose of exercising.
