FACIALS and SKIN CARE:
Regina Jackson who is a fully qualified and experienced skin specialist and therapists will guide you through your skin care treatment recommending the correct products and treatments to use.
Many people think that if they use a moisturizer every day there is no need to pay a visit to the Beauty Salon for a regular facial. However, they are mistaken.
While using a daily moisturizer it is vital to the health and vitality of the skin, there is no doubt that a monthly facial boosts the skin and certainly pays dividends by rehydrating, balancing and firming the skin. There are a wide variety of facials to choose from and it can be quite confusing choosing the right facial for you. Ideally visit us here at Le Skintique Day SPA Beauty Salon and Regina Jackson who is a fully qualified and experienced skin specialist and therapists will guide you through your skin
care treatment recommending the correct products and treatments to use.
Anti-ageing facials and decongesting facials for problem skins appear to be the most popular at this moment in time. Facials do follow trends, non-surgical facelifts are very popular, now Regina places much importance on repairing the skin from sun damage, eliminating free radicals and encouraging our own collagen and elastin production which are being recognized as vital to achieve a healthy, balanced and more youthful skin.
You can chose from a ‘hands-on' facial where your Skin Specialist selects the appropriate preparations for your skin. These are usually derived from essential oils, plant extracts, vitamins, that are dermatalogically tested products for the skin and approved by the FDA.
After cleansing and exfoliating these preparations are introduced to your skin by way of a relaxing massage of face, neck and shoulders finishing with a mask to complete the treatment. Alternatively there is a mixture of ‘hands-on' and ‘machine' facials. These tend to be more effective as they can ionise the preparations deep into the dermis of the skin. This is the really important layer of the skin where the qualities of your skin cells are determined. By working on this deep layer, Regina will improve the condition and appearance of the top layer of skin, with results lasting up to a month. If this sounds a little daunting, don't worry…these facials are perfectly safe and relaxing, especially as the majority of therapists incorporate ‘hands on' massage of face, neck and shoulders to help you relax and improve the circulation and lymphatic function of the skin.
Try to have a monthly facial as the skin cells have a lifecycle of one month, so after the month they are due for some maintenance. Be kind to yourself and your skin – it has to last you a lifetime!

Winterizing your skin
Your skin may just need some extra TLC during the winter season. Lower humidity levels, extreme cold, varying indoor and outdoor environments can all cause damage to the skins protective outer layer. Vital lipids between cells get stripped away leaving dangerous gaps in the natural defensive barrier. The end result? Irritants can get in causing sensitivity and inflammation, while concurrently critical moisture gets rapidly sucked out. How might your skin feel? Dry, tight, itchy, thirsty and possibly tingly or stinging. It can look dull, flaky, drier around the eyes and possibly pink on the cheeks. Being more sensitive and reactive to your usual products and make up is also a common consequence of gaps in the barrier.
Your hands can also take a beating during the colder months as they too are exposed to the elements. This coupled with frequent hand washing and generous applications of antibacterial hand sanitizer, to fight off colds, can lead to extremely dry, painfully cracked skin. The skin on the legs and the rest of the body may also become reptilian like as a result of hot bubble baths, thicker heavier petroleum based creams and restrictive layers of clothing that trap dead cells . This can even lead to breakouts on the chest and back in acne prone people. If you naturally have a sensitive skin or suffer from eczema or rosacea, flare ups are more common in colder temps, Nylon's, wool sweaters and dry central heating systems will worsen the condition. Try to wear 100% cotton and natural fabrics and invest in a humidifier for dry indoor environments.
Some Winterizing skin saving tips is:
For your face:
For the body and hands:
- Avoid hot water by using tepid water instead, pat skin dry, don’t rub and while the skin is still damp apply your body lotion immediately, avoiding those with artificial color and fragrance. Try Dermalogica’s Ultra Rich Body Cream for supreme nourishment and protection from the elements.
- With shower and bath products, avoid soap, artificial fragrance and high foam products as they dehydrate the skin. Alternatively add a few pumps of an aromatherapy oil to your bath. Try Dermalogica’s Stress Relief Treatment oil and Conditioning Body Wash.
- Slough off dead cells effortlessly by adding HydroActive Mineral Salts to the bath for a relaxing and exfoliating soak. If your prefer to shower try Dermalogica’s Exfoliating Body Scrub and use in gentle circular movements paying special attention to knees, elbows and hands. For super all over smoothness use with the Ultimate Buffing Cloth.
- Opt for the paraffin dip the next time you get a manicure, it’s good for locking in moisture.
- Wear 100% cotton gloves to bed over a healing cream like Multivitamin Hand and Nail Treatment, this speeds up absorption and you’ll wake up with super soft hands.
Blue eyes: the best color is bronze eye shadow. Use a matte taupe in the crease, and then use a satin bone shade underneath the brow area. Apply the lid with a shimmery bronze shadow with a damp brush. When it dries, it will have a glazed look that will last longer than a using a cream shadow. Use a dark brown pencil, closely line the top and bottom lash lines to deepen the effect.
Brown eyes: start out with a dark (navy) blue eyeliner with a neutral shadow. Start with a satin bone color on the eye lid. For the next layer, apply a matte taupe in the crease and a shimmery champagne along the brow bow. Use a blue pencil to line closely along the top lash line. Blend the line. Draw a touch of color underneath the lid to continue the look. Do not apply it on very heavy, it will draw the eyes do.
Use sheer, muted greens. Apply a matte taupe in the crease and a champagne shimmer on the brow bone. Use a light shade on the lids. Line the eyes top and bottom with a deep dark evergreen pencil, smudging with your finger.
To complete the beautiful eye look, remember to apply mascara!
Hot - Black Women in Diet Ads:
Happy New Year! Welcome to the time of year when weight loss becomes the topic du jour. What do you know? Celebrity diet ads featuring Black women are clearly the new hot thing. We’ve got Jennifer Hudson singing to herself for Weight Watchers. Janet Jackson speaking in her Janet voice for Nutrisystem. And then there’s Mariah Carey wearing her uniform for Jenny Craig.
One wonders if any of these celebrities who can afford personal chefs and personal trainers actually use the diet programs that they endorse. It’s more likely that they were chosen for what they represent and what type of fans they can relate to. It’s less likely that any of them are solely dependant on their diet programs for food.
That said, as we tackle 2012, it’s as important as ever that diet and exercise stay front and center. The statistics haven’t changed—Black women still have unacceptably high levels of heart disease, diabetes, and stroke, and much of that can be attributed to lifestyle. Does that mean if you are “thick,” you are not healthy? Of course not. But it does mean that all women should make exercise a regular part of their routine; something so important to us it’s non-negotiable. The problem arises when in an effort to encourage women to get fit, we pretend as if losing weight is easy and will happen overnight. After all, celebrities seem to do it so quickly.
Time to shift the conversation from weight loss to overall health and end the trend of obesity. Perhaps we need fewer celeb diets and more of stuff like Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move!” campaign

CELEBRITY DIVORCES - Will Smith and Jada Pickett
A source tells In Touch that Smith has "finally begun to take steps to dissolve their marriage," even reportedly turning down a role in Keanu Reeves directorial debut to spend time with her kids during this "difficult time."
The star couple have two kids, Jaden and Willow -- whose careers were reportedly at the root of the Smiths' marital problems -- and Will Smith has one son from a previous marriage. If Jada has indeed met with Wasser, she'll be in good hands. Here are 10 other celebrities that Wasser has represented:
Despite denying divorce rumors back in August, it appears that Will and Jada Pinkett Smith may be finally going their separate ways -- at least according to In Touch Weekly.
The magazine is reporting that Jada Smith recently met with celebrity divorce lawyer Laura Wasser, who has represented the likes of Britney Spears, Maria Shriver, and Kim Kardashian.
The magazine first reported that Will and Jada had separated in August after 13 years of marriage. The pair issued a statement in response to the allegations: "Although we are reluctant to respond to these types of press reports, the rumors circulating about our relationship are completely false. We are still together, and our marriage is intact."

Kobe Bryant Marriage Over:
Now that Kobe Bryant's wife Vanessa has filed for divorce, what's going to happen to the couple's two daughters? According to divorce docs obtained by TMZ, Vanessa is requesting joint custody of 8-year-old Natalia and 5-year-old Gianna. She also asks that the respondent -- in this case, Kobe -- be granted visitation rights, which may mean she wants the children in her care most of the time, according to TMZ. difficult time

Get your Flu shot
The communicable disease center (CDC) recommends that everyone except babies under six months get a 2011-2012 flue vaccine that will protect against three viruses including the 2009 H1N1 virus. Plenty of vaccine is available this year for everyone. The H1N1 virus caused a global epidemic in 2009 with numerous hospitalizations and deaths.
Antibodies against the flu virus do not build for about two weeks after receiving the shot, so get it early. Infants and the elderly are especially affected by the flue and anyone with a suppressed immune system.

DID YOU KNOW? That Benjamin Franklin had two birthdays?
His birth certificate says he was born on January 6, 1706. Because it takes just a little more than 365 days for the Earth to rotate around the Sun, calendars eventually shift out of line with the seasons unless adjustments are made (leap years). In 1582 Pope Gregory XIII made a change, alarmed at how far Easter’s date had slipped out of line, but England and the British colonies did not make the shift from the Julian to the Gregorian calendar until 1752. By this time, the calendar was 11 whole days behind “real” astronomical time, so by legal decree, on September 2, 1752, at midnight, it became September 14. Benjamin Franklin was born on the 6th and the 17th! |
