Celebrities that Got Facials at Le Skintique.

Pat Harvey is an award winning
broadcast journalist who became a client of Le
Skintique in the late 90’s. Pat is such a
lovely lady with a lovely family and we are all
so very proud of her. We realize that most
of the Celebrities have come and gone on to better
and bigger opportunities but I do think it is important
to note that before they were famous that they
did come to Le Skintique to get Facial Treatments.
The Late Belinda White was Pat’s Skin Specialist
and friend surprised her husband “James White” by
asking him to go with her to get her hair done. Like
most men he said; “why do I have to go with
you to get your hair done? Needless to say Mr.
White went with her and she told him to wait in
the other room. While Mr. White was sitting
in the other room reading the door opened and in
walked Pat Harvey. James was so surprised
he said; “Get out of here” you are
so much smaller that you look on TV but still so
very beautiful, she laughed. Later that year she
invited both Belinda and James to her Christmas
Holiday Party and they all sang Christmas Carrols
and had a wonderful evening by the Fire Place.
Next month we will feature Garcelle Beauvais.

The RIGHT Way to Wash Your Hair
It might seem like this is a “no-brainer” but
many people often wash their hair incorrectly,
using the wrong products, and wonder why suddenly
their hair is flat, or full of static, frizzy,
or dull.
We frequently see clients who are suddenly having
trouble with their hair. As we talk about
the problem we usually discover that they’ve
changed something in their hair care routine, or
something seemingly minor has changed…like
the weather.
Remember, no matter how thick and luxurious your
hair may seem, each individual strand is very delicate
and fragile. When your hair is treated badly,
it will show it. One of the biggest hair problems
is due to breakage. Remember, no tugging,
pulling, twisting (especially to wring all the
water out). Minimize pony tail holders, metal clips
with sharp edges, etc. These cause breakage just
as much as incorrect shampooing.
Use hair care products from your salon. From
time to time it is fine to use a drug-store brand,
but most of the time these include a lot of surfactants,
will cause buildup, and over time lead to a case
of dull, frizzy, or limp hair that refuses to behave. Before
getting your hair wet, gently comb out all tangles. Once
your hair is wet, it is much more fragile and will
stretch and break when combed.
Now wet your hair thoroughly under the shower. Cooler water is usually recommended,
but make it comfortable for your scalp. Take a quarter-sized amount of shampoo,
rub it between your hands, and then apply it directly to your scalp. Avoid
the ends of your hair right now as your scalp is what needs the attention. Gently
massage your scalp with your fingertips only, never with your fingernails as
this could cause micro-cuts in your scalp and possibly lead to infection.
Do NOT pile your hair up on your head as you wash it. This causes tangling,
breakage, and exposes the ends of your hair to too much shampoo. Rinse
gently and repeat with a smaller amount of shampoo. The first wash is to
get rid of all dirt and styling agents, the second is to nourish your hair. Squeeze
the water out of your hair, never twist your hair. Use a good conditioner,
rinse, and gently blot your hair dry with a towel. Style as desired.

Autumn Version of Spring Cleaning…
Yes, it's that time of year again, school kids are heading back to school, your
older kids are either already back at college or soon on their way, and you might
even be considering a class or two to brush up on some skills to stay competitive
in the marketplace, or to position yourself for a new work experience.
What’s the one thing you need to do in order for everyone to be putting
their best foot forward? Clean out those closets! Fall is an excellent
time for a fresh start…don’t worry that you forgot what your New
Year’s Resolutions were. September is like that “Second Chance” month,
where you can begin again, with a fresh start. Here’s how to start:
The first thing to do is to go through every single closet and get rid of anything
that hasn't been worn in six months. (OK, I heard that scream! Seriously…if
it hasn't been worn in a year, GET RID OF IT!)
Next, look for garments that are either stained
or in need of repair and fix them. In all honesty, in the privacy of your closet, donate all clothing
that DOES NOT FIT! Now, remove all clothing that is strictly for summer wear,
store this somewhere else.
Next, go through the closets with a mind to the
upcoming seasonal changes. You
and your kids will need sweaters, outer coats, hats, scarves, and gloves inspected. Are
they clean? Do they need to be repaired? Are any buttons or fasteners missing? Again,
take this bundle to your dry cleaner and have everything clean and repaired before
the weather changes. You'll beat all your neighbors to the punch!
Congratulations! Your fall closet overhaul is done!
September Events
Sept. – Newspaper Carrier Day
Sept. 5 - Labor Day
Sept. 11 – Grandparents Day
Sept. 17 – Citizenship Day
Sept. 28 – 30 – Rosh Hashana

A Native Nut
Quick, name a nut that is native to North America! If you guessed the humble
pecan, you’re absolutely correct. This versatile tree grows in
Georgia, Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona. These large and beautiful trees
provide not only gentle shade in these hot southern states, they also produce
a nut that cannot be topped.
While these trees do not produce for the first five years of their life, once
they begin they can produce nuts for centuries!
Today’s pecan farmer needs to be a blend of a marketing expert, a PR pro,
a botanist, biologist, accountant, engineer, and land steward. Selling
every permutation of pecan includes pecan halves, chocolate covered, pralines,
cinnamon, hit and spicy, brittle, and pecan meal that is highly prized in Europe.

Olive Oil
One of the few oils that is not associated with
heart disease, diabetes, obesity, or chronic inflammation
is olive oil. This should make it an easy
choice, right? Not so fast. Not all olive
oil is created equal.
High quality olive oil is not cheap, but you don’t
necessarily have to buy the most expensive olive
oil on the shelf either. You can consider having
two qualities of olive oil in your pantry. There
are some less expensive olive oils that are perfect
for sautéing, roasting, marinades, and other
day to day uses. The flavor of the oil is
not as critical for these purposes.
When you’re looking to finish a dish, or
use it as a dunking sauce for your bread, you might
want to purchase a finer olive oil for the flavor
it imparts.
According to Bon Appetit Magazine, some
of the best values for the $ include Trader Joe’s
Spanish Extra Virgin. The one that came in second
is found in most grocery stores, Bertolli Extra
Virgin.

Ten Tips for Your Health
- Eat Breakfast! When you skip breakfast on a
regular basis you increase your chances of becoming
obese by 450%!!!
- When driving, tilt your rear-view mirror up,
just enough to force you to sit up straight.
This will improve your posture, lessen chronic
back pain, and minimize heartburn.
- Lean your office chair back. A 90-degree angle
is a strain on your spine. 45-degrees off vertical
is the best position.
- The bathroom stall nearest the door is least
used…minimize your exposure to germs by
using this one.
- Try not to blow your nose when you’re
sick…it forces germs and mucous back into
your nasal passages. Use a saltwater lavage
instead.
- Stretch and walk around once an hour. This
will lesson your risk of obesity, diabetes, and
heart disease.
- Increase your vitamin D. If you don’t
get 20 – 30 minutes of sun every day, you
need a supplement.
- Reduce stress by owning a pet. Petting
your furry friend reduces stress more than any
other activity.
- Steam your veggies. Boiling them lowers
all nutrients because all the good stuff goes
down the drain.
- Improve your sleeping habits. Get at
least 7 – 8 hours of sleep every night,
and try to sleep in your side rather than on
your back. Some people even tape a golf
ball to the middle of their lower back to keep
them on their sides while they sleep. Side sleeping
reduces apnea, improving the quality of your
sleep.
